I started my art career late in life, after retiring from being an Air Traffic Controller in South Africa. I'm completely self-taught, with no formal art education. My paintings are influenced by the bright colours and textures of Africa and the much loved Mediterranean countries of Greece, where I live now, and Italy where I worked for a while as a cook on a wine farm, as well as England where I lived for 15 years. My work is leaning more and more towards abstraction, which is much more of a challenge to me than painting representational. Depth, layers and hidden meanings excite me, as well as texture and fabulous colours and my sources are often just plain feelings and mysterious internal rhythms. As Monet said: "Colour is my daylong obsession, joy and torment". I also do sculpture and jewellery making. My sculptural fine silver bangles are wearable works of art. My work has been shown in international galleries. |
