Mathias Buß

Painter
Bad Doberan, Germany

André 2As an architect and visual artist, I have been working nationally and internationally for many years. My work and life have been centered in Weimar and Rostock, as well as Cairo and Sharjah (UAE).
While my exhibitions have been shown in Dubai, Alexandria, Vienna, and Brussels, my works are held in private and public collections in Germany and abroad.

My artistic position is linked to landscape painting. However, my paintings are not traditionally realistic, but rather set pieces and poetic connections of diary-like notes.
My works bear their own signature. They are characterized by a searching stroke with a moderate colorism of sensual perception, in which direct experience of nature and artistic expression are combined.

My works depict landscapes, city silhouettes, and color impressions: transitions and moments, the visible and the invisible. Sometimes they are graphic forms, reduced to the essentials, sometimes just colors and light reflections.
The paintings were created exclusively outdoors. They embody the style of impression and transience—the favor of the moment.

My paintings take viewers on a journey where the distant becomes close and the past lives on in the present. They reflect cultures that have shaped me as an artist, mingled within me, and then clarified themselves.
Each picture contains the story of an encounter: they are life stories from a foreign land that is familiar to me.
I value the community of artists in the sense of mutual inspiration, motivation, and appreciation.
