Natalia Dik

Painter

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Marcel 2I’m known for my portraits and landscapes, but I also paint still lifes and cityscapes.
My works are deeply rooted in the Russian painting tradition, with influences from symbolism and impressionism.
They radiate a timeless, spiritual tranquility, with nature often central as a subject and as a metaphor for inner silence and contemplation.
I play with light and color to create a sense of depth and emotion, where the viewer loses him/herself in a dreamy atmosphere.
Usually with oil paint on canvas, layered compositions and detailed yet supple brushwork, I create a harmonious and serene appearance.
My portraits radiate a sense of tranquility and introspection, with the figures appearing turned inward.
This gives my portraits an almost meditative character, where a subtle and nuanced emotion is conveyed.
I want to in evoking deep feelings of melancholy, calm or mystery through small details such as a slightly curved corner of the mouth or soft expression in the eyes.
The skin tones, hair textures and clothing of my figures are often meticulously rendered, a testament to my classical academic background and mastery of the oil painting technique.
My portrait "Mother with child" is an equally intimate and sensitive portrait, in which I capture the strong bond between mother and child. It shows the mother protectively and lovingly embracing the child, with an emphasis on tender facial expressions and gentle touch.
I am one of the contemporary Russian artists who enjoy international recognition.
I have painted before in France, together with an artist group and the recently passed away Dutch Master Matthijs Röling.
