As a child I was always busy drawing and doing crafts. You have those children who always want to be busy making something. I was such a child.
Yet after high school I went in a different direction, studied Dutch, taught and worked as an independent communication trainer. There was little time for extensive drawing, although it was never completely gone. “Making something” always remained present somewhere.
But the blood flows where it can't go, and I started drawing again. The group I ended up in included professional artists. I stayed there for several years. But the teacher thought I drew like a sculptor, and he thought I should work spatially. That took a few years, but I ended up at a local arts center where I could get started with clay. This is how my work as a ceramist began.
I like to make human or animal figures. My animals are often metaphors for human qualities. Human figures sometimes don’t have entirely normal noses or ears, hands or feet. They never just happen. Often an event or an image is the reason.
Images arise in my head. I rarely make a drawing before I start. That is why the images can also go in their own direction. There is always something to get excited about and that is why there is always an idea.
I like having contact with other artists about the work they make. It makes me look at the world in a different way. As an artist I can express my feelings in my work. What I cannot say in words, I can express in my images..
