Gabrielle Müller

Printmaker, painter, story writer
Krems, Austria

Otie 1Sometimes, there's a rumbling in my head. I call this feeling "Emil". Sometimes he misbehaves. But often he's really funny and comes up with amusing things. To keep him happy, I paint, do etching and print. When he's in a good mood, he comes up with stories. I write them down. He is very proud when I hang up the pictures at exhibitions or read the stories out loud to more than one person.

At the age of 18, I came across a job as a drawing teacher in a girls' school in San Ignacio de Velasco, a small village in Bolivia. After that, I took classes in painting groups, at schools and in courses, including at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Guatemala, the Volkshochschule for the Arts in Vienna and the Geras Academy in Lower Austria. In 2018, on the advice of a friend who is a painter, I scratched a small copper plate. I then learned from some printmakers on site and set up a small workshop.

In 2021, a group of devotees of printmaking founded the Typos association in the Kunst & Druckwerkstatt at the station in Hausmening. We decided to learn, work and exhibit together. Our annual symposium at Schloss Ulmerfeld now attracts artists from all over Europe. Emil has travelled widely, which he is very happy about, and has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Europe and Central America. The exhibition "Phantastisch verrückt I" is currently on display until 18. October at Schloss Ulmerfeld. "Phantastisch II" will follow (with a different line-up) on 13. October in Krems.
