TRAVEL STORIES
An art exhibition.
Paintings, graphics and prints by Uta Schnuppe Strack and Gerd Lepic
Uta Schnuppe Strack and Gerd Lepic, whose works were housed in the BLUE HOUSE in July and August, traveled not through time, but through space. Following the anniversary exhibition “20 Years of the Murnau Artists’ Association” in autumn 2018, they started the project MOVING ART COLONY IN EUROPE. A long journey, an art campaign that revitalized the phenomenon of artist colonies from a new and dynamic perspective. Starting from Malwerk Oberhausen, her studio with an attached painting school, contacts were made with artists in Europe. Artist colonies already existed and exist in many countries; They emerge wherever creative people come together to live and work together.
Since MOVING ART COLONY IN EUROPE, Uta Schnuppe Strack and Gerd Lepic have been participating in various art projects in European countries and regions, preparing international artist meetings and residencies and developing cooperative exhibition opportunities. With Eric Schaftlein from Cernay-la-Ville, they founded the international artist group ARTISTS IN MOTION (AiM). The show TRAVEL STORIES presented events from memory, the present and also episodes that are still being shaped.
Uta Schnuppe Strack prefers color-intensive mixed media and etching techniques. Since 2019, she has been working repeatedly on series of works about the fleetingness of the moment, in which she incorporates parts of plants taken from nature into acrylic paintings. Gerd Lepic initially painted and drew exclusively from nature. From 1996 onwards, hybrid moments of people and plants creep into his pictures, which ultimately become fully narrative, representational motifs. The open interpretation possibilities are the result of a “sampling” method that precedes the careful composition of the images.
