Franka Op de Beke

Painter, sculptor
Terneuzen, the Netherlands

André 2As I had more free time, I studied drawing/painting and later sculpture at the Art Academy in Eeklo, Belgium.
My medium is oil paint, which I usually apply to linen and sometimes to other surfaces.
Many of my works are about people, which is where I find my challenge, although I don't shy away from other images that I often photograph myself first (such as dilapidated spaces).

The colours I use are sometimes bright, intense and expressive, sometimes sober, dark and tinged with melancholy, but always strong and combative.
The deliberately confusing way in which some canvases are painted encourages the viewer to recognise the work.

The figuration of some human forms borders on abstraction, so that everyone can form their own image based on their own imagination and fantasy.
WHAT I SEE AND FEEL HERE.

I also want to show this in the sculptures I make from stone, clay, wood and plaster.
It is a recurring element in many of my works.

I have participated in various exhibitions at home and abroad.
I am drawn to working with other artists, strengthening each other and thus pushing my boundaries.
